The Licensing Matters Due Diligence Package

What is Due Diligence?

  ‘Due Diligence’ is a defence in law.  It means being able to prove that all the correct policies and procedures are in place to prevent the sale of alcohol to a person under the age of 18.  If a member of staff were then to sell alcohol to a child the business owner would be able to show that it was a mistake and that the policies and procedures in place meant that it should not have happened.  It is the only way for business owners and their supervisors to protect themselves from a prosecution.

 Everyone who holds a premises licence is expected to understand their responsibilities. It is not acceptable to say – ‘I didn’t know the law’, or ‘I didn’t know I had to train my staff’.  Unfortunately, despite the amount of revenue an alcohol licence brings to businesses, many owners do not realise their responsibilities. 

Licensing Matters have developed a comprehensive package that, when used as directed, would provide a Due Diligence defence. 

 

The Due Diligence training package
